Syncline-Castle Trail Descriptions

Visit the Syncline Trail Network year round, but please keep horses and mountain bikes off the trails in the winter.

In the winter, snowshoers are asked to stay to the side of groomed trails.

Equestrian, Hiking and Mountain Biking: May 1 – November 30
Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing: (NO fat bikes or winter walkers, sorry) December 1 – April 30


Trails are listed from easiest to hardest: color coded GREEN and BLUE.
Snowshoers, please be courteous and stay to the side of the ski tracks.

Trail Descriptions

River Loop: The River Loop starts at the North Parking Lot at Junction 9. It is 3 km long. The trail follows the West Castle River with views of the Syncline Mountain. There are a few hills to ascend and descend. There is a bench at Junction 8, Junction 6 and Junction. Full trail maps are also at these noted Junctions. 

Front Link: Front Link is also accessed from the North Parking Lot. It is 0.6 km long. It is an easy trail through a forest setting and connects to the Chinook Loop at Junction 10. 

Meadow Trail: Meadow Trail also starts at the North Parking Lot at Junction 9. It is 0.6 km long. An easy forest trail connecting to Chickadee at Junction 3. 

Chickadee: Chickadee begins at Junction 4 and ends at Junction 8. It is .85 km long. It travels through timber forest. 

Chinook Loop: Chinook Loop has two access points. From the North Parking Lot travel along Front Link to Junction 10. From the South Parking Lot enter either the north or south gate to begin the Chinook Loop. The Chinook Loop is 2.5 km long. It intersects the Racer Loop at Junctions 11 and 12. 

Back Link: Back Link is accessed via the River Loop at Junction 5. There are multiple ascents and descents travelling to Junction 13 to intersect with the Racers Loop. From the bench there is view of Table Mountain. 

Lake Loop: The Lake Loop is accessed at Junction 6. It is 3.2 km long. Travel south from Junction 6 to Junction 7. From this Junction choose either right or left to complete the Lake Loop. Travelling right there are multiple roller coaster like hills, a bench enroute and then reaching The Lake there are two benches. Travelling left will take you through wet lands and shale ponds with a bench overlooking Moose Meadows. 

Racers Loop: Racers Loop is 3.9 km. There are multiple access points. Coming up Back Link at Junction 13 or from Chinook Loop at Junctions 12 and 11. At Junction 13 there is Table Mountain bench. From Junction 11-14 the trail follows an old logging road, it is wide and generally flat. 

Truck Box Meadow: Truck Box Meadow is 3.5 km long. There are two access points, one at Junction 14 from the Racers Loop and the other at the Lake Loop double benches travelling across the lake.
